Content

In this seminar, we will discuss publicly available biomedical data sets, which consist of repositories for molecular data, imaging dara and aggregated data (such as www.ourworldindata.org). We will learn about access methods as well as input methods for these type of data. Furthermore, we will discuss the role of metadata, aspects of data security and technical methods for partitioning data. Finally, we will discuss aspects of Open Science - in particular how transparency and participation in the research process can make it more effective.

Objectives

In this seminar, students get an understanding of the basic principles of Open Data and Open Science. The learn methods for implementing, publishing and re-using open data as well as how to analyze them statistically. Through intensive review of the current literature, students get to know the current data landscape in biomedical research.
